BYBLOS, in contrast to Frankie Morello, was more subdued and sober with its autumn–winter 2009–10 collection. Blacks and dark blue–greys were among the deeper shades—a stark contrast to the whites earlier this decade and the incredibly colourful collection a season before. Jackets featured shoulder pads and pleating, almost in a military fashion, while gowns were still glam, playing with triangular forms—Manuel Facchini, creative director of the label, says the pyramid formed the basis of the designs. Silks and cashmere tried to contrast the idea of ‘armour’ that Facchini was aiming at.
   Facchini says that the Byblos woman is romantic and feminine, while decisive and strong, and the collection is meant to convey these ideas. •
