New York Fashion Week fall 2011 Our New Zealand favourite One of the outfits we’re eyeing up for autumn 2011.

Zambesi maintains its edge

ZAMBESI IS yet to disappoint, with this show being one of the best in years. It started with the jungle beats of Iko Iko playing as the first model stepped onto the runway, dressed in a shaggy fur coat, one of the key fabrics for this year’s collection.

Another great theatrical element to the show was the war-like paint featuring on select models’ faces, adding to the atmosphere. This gave the collection that edge over any other, cementing the reason for Zambesi’s cult-like following, and again demonstrated designer Elisabeth Findlay’s ability to think outside the box.

The shaggy fur fabric featured in scarves, vests, skirts and jackets on both the men and women. Hexagonal pieces of knits, leathers and cottons formed oversized baggy jumpers and jackets; laser-cut leather was paired with skinny jeans and layered with a lace dress underneath, adding a more feminine dimension to the collection.
