Stellantis has announced that the Opel Crossland successor will be called Frontera, reviving a name last used in 2004 for SUVs based on the Isuzu MU and Wizard.

Details are still vague, but Opel promises full EV and 48 V hybrid options, two large 10 in screens in the interior, and plenty of cargo space.

There is a dock for smartphones as an option, where the phone becomes the infotainment control, and can even interact with the steering wheel’s controls. Opel says its Intelli-Seat front seats have a slot that relieves pressure on the tailbone, even for long journeys.

Opel also notes that the new model has the Opel–Vauxhall ‘vizor’ grille that is meant to recall the Vauxhall Firenza droop snoot and Chevette of the 1970s.

The Crossland, which was launched in 2017, dated back to when Opel was under the control of GM, though it sits on a first-generation Peugeot 2008 platform. The original 2008 ceased European production in 2019, making the Crossland one of the older-tech models in the Opel range.
