You want to look good at all times and be able to see clearly. Gunnar Optiks, dedicated to safeguarding vision from blue rays, UV light, and the effects of Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS), has delivered stylish solutions for men and women who work hard (on the job) and play hard (computer gamers).

CVS results from focusing the eyes on a computer or other display device for longer, uninterrupted periods. The eye’s muscles over time become less able to withstand the constant tension required to maintain focus on close objects. Since 2007, the Carlsbad, Calif.-based company founded by Jennifer Michelsen and Joe Croft has expanded to encompass prescription eyewear, readers, and kids’ eyewear. While Gunnar has joined forces in the past with top video game producers (naturally!), its latest collaboration is with lifestyle brand Tokidoki by Italian designer Simone Legno and entrepreneur Mohajer Pooneh.

Lifestyle brand Tokidoki, which translates to sometimes in Japanese, is visionary in its own right. Débuting in 2005, it amassed a cult-like international following for Legno’s vibrant and sassy characters that are very Japanese in inspiration but also relatable to people from all backgrounds and walks of life. The now Los Angeles-based Legno, whose work was previously emblazoned on goods from Le Sportsac, Karl Lagerfeld, Guggenheim Museum, Sephora, Onitsuka Tiger, Marvel, Levi’s, Xbox, T-mobile and others, provides an added incentive for people to invest in protective eyewear.

Each pair of glasses includes a Tokidoki-themed hard case, a microfibre pouch, and microfibre cloth. Enchanting Tokidoki styles include:

  • Tokidoki Sandy (MSRP US$115): inspired by Sandy and her Cactus Friends, it has a signature cat-eye in a gorgeous green cactus-coloured frame made of premium handmade acetate;
  • Tokidoki Donutella (MSRP US$125): this premium handmade acetate and metal frame is full of pink and frosted fun with a round and retro shape that is out of this world;
  • Tokidoki Cotton Candy Carnival (MSRP US$89): with a lovely lavender colour, it is the sweetest ticket in town and has a precision-engineered polymer frame material.

The officially licensed Tokidoki glasses collection is designed with flexible spring hinges and includes a 12- to 24-month warranty. Each style also has health-benefiting features like hypoallergenic titanium nose pads and patented lens technology, a 0·2 diopter of focusing power, and a wrap-around frame design all designed to block blue and UV light and prevent CVS. Other key features include handmade acetate and metal frame material, Gunnar patented lens technology, and G-Shield Premium anti-reflective and smudge-resistant lens coating.
