Launched in April, Byron Bay Swim is a new Canadian swimwear and resort wear label, founded by Amélie Marcoux with her collaborator Françoise Perron. The pair have over two decades in the fashion industry.
Marcoux wanted to find affordable swimwear that would suit her as a woman in her mid-40s, and, deciding she would no longer compromise, created her own. All the design is done in Montréal, and the items are produced in Asia.
Sizes range from 4 to 14, and the brand says it is sustainable, with recycled materials in the fabric (e.g. the nylon spandex is recycled) and packaging. Prices range from C$50 to C$120.

African-inspired clothing brand D’Iyanu has released its summer 2022 collection, with the theme of ‘summertime opulence’.
There are African prints in blue, raspberry and green, on designs for both men and women. The women’s designs are form-fitting, with the addition of pieces featuring what D’Iyanu calls a modern take on the regal neckline. There are also wide-leg pants and maxi dresses. For men, D’Iyanu has released cotton-blend flex tops and trousers. Prices range from US$24·99 to US$109·99.
D’Iyanu founder Addie Elabor launched her label from her Pennsylvania apartment in 2014, and has built up a following, chosen by Jidenna, Marcus Scribner (Black-ish), Gayle King, Danielle Brooks, and Mo’nique. More at www.diyanu.com.
Staying Stateside, Chandra Keyser has launched a luxury bag line, with five styles all hand-made in Scandicci, Italy by a family-owned factory.
Keyser, formerly working in marketing for the New York Stock Exchange, decided to follow her passions, studying with master craftsmen in Toscana. Her début collection, comprising a backpack, a bucket bag, a crossbody, a cosmetic bag, and a clutch, in different shades, is made of high-quality calfskin leather with a microfibre lining inside.
Sustainability efforts include donating 10 per cent of proceeds to the Arbor Day Foundation, using recycled packaging, and using shipping by sea rather than by air.
