Although we did three of the major cities on the circuit, our Paris Fashion Week coverage is relatively light this season. However, we do have the video below from Chanel’s spring–summer 2012 prêt-à-porter collection at the Grand Palais, with a spectacular show that again underlines just how good Karl Lagerfeld is at spectacle.
Chanel’s collection was delightful enough, regardless of setting: romantic and feminine dresses, featuring puffed sleeves, ruching and tweed; skirts of all styles; and (a lot of) white, aqua, pale blue pink and black being the principal colours for the season. There was a light, approachable feel to the designs.
Of course, the underwater setting that Lagerfeld created—with giant shells, fish and other sea creatures—upped the ante just that much more, while Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine, singing out of a seashell in a living, 2010s Boticelli’s Venus, crowned the show. Top models such as Miranda Kerr ensured Chanel would get splashed across more fashion pages internationally.
