London Fashion Week autumn–winter 2012–13, day 4 catwalk

News

February 21, 2012/0.07

If you weren’t watching live on our streaming player at London Fashion Week, here are the highlights from day four: videos from Peter Pilotto, Sophie Hulme, Christopher Kane, Michael van der Ham, Mark Fast, Fred Butler, Erdem, Burberry Prorsum, Fashion East, Christian Blanken and Osman. A McQ video is not available yet.
Peter Pilotto and Christopher de Vos headed east for their inspiration, with Japanese trucks adorned with fetish lights, Chinese operas and other oriental subcultures informing their designs. Jackets, cutaway and full-length dresses were complemented by exaggerated floral prints and intricate beading.
Michael van der Ham continued with his collage technique, though this season, his design sense had been moderated somewhat. The combinations were unexpected but still worked well: crushed organza, silk, bouclé, wool, metallic lace and jacquard.
Christopher Kane had numerous famous faces in his front row—Samantha Cameron, Alexa Chung, Laura Bailey and Yasmin Le Bon—but the real action, as usual, was on the catwalk. The autumn–winter 2012–13 collection was a little more grunge, as models came out with leather and pony skin jackets and skirts, before the collection turned into purple leather and chiffon dresses. It was one of the best of the week, regardless of which celebs were present.
Erdem held his show at the White Cube gallery in Bermondsey and while there were floral dresses, there was a sufficiently new take, with bright colours (purple appeared here, too, along with a bright neon yellow), and startling prints that lifted the mood.
Burberry Prorsum also saw Samantha Cameron, along with Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Kate Bosworth, Will.i.am, and Korean band Girl Generation. Christopher Bailey was in fine form, with Town & Field the inspiration for the Yorkshire designer. Tailored coats in tweed, cord and khaki, just right for the hunt, riding skirts, tweed caps, bags and belts contributed to the theme, while the colour palette of indigo, black, brown and moss green gave a very autumnal feel.
