The rise of Taylor Swift continues: her 10th studio album, Midnights, which was released on October 21, has racked up 6 million album equivalent units in eight weeks. Swift is now the only artist to have five albums with over 1 million units during release week, according to Universal Music citing Nielsen. Midnights is also the first album to sell over 1 million physical units since 2015, with 575,000 of those in the US, and achieved over a milliard streams in its first week.
The label notes that Swift is the first artist in history to capture the entire top 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, and the entire top 5 on the Billboard Global 200. She has 36·6 milliard combined streams of her music and 22·4 million album equivalent units for 2022 as of December 22.
She has won numerous awards this year and is in the running for further Grammys, and, for ‘Carolina’ from Where the Crawdads Sing, a Golden Globe, and Critics’ Choice and Hollywood Critics’ Association awards. ‘Carolina’ is also on the Oscar shortlist for Best Original Song. In 2023, Swift will embark on her The Eras Tour, with 52 stadium shows in the US.
