New York-based Ayaka Nishi has an inspiring collection of jewellery based around natural forms, such as honeycombs, spiders’ webs, coral and bones. She has recently débuted her spring–summer 2011 collection, and has made a video (among other materials) to commemorate the occasion.
Nishi’s designs are sold principally in New York but she has one retailer in her native Japan.
She says her inspiration stems from her childhood. Growing up in Kagoshima, a mid-sized city, she observed both city life and the wildlife in the nearby countryside.
Nishi studied at Japan’s Jewellery Craft Institute and at FIT in New York. She had interned for Philip Crangi and worked at Subversive Jewelry, before branching out into her own line.
