In New York, Morgans Hotel Group has opened its 270-room Mondrian Soho property at 9 Crosby Street. This is the group’s third Mondrian hotel.
The penthouse, on the 25th floor, covers 1,170 ft² with a 200 ft² north terrace facing the Empire State Building.
Says Marc Gordon of Morgans: ‘We are looking forward to adding our unique style of hospitality, nightlife and entertainment, innovative culinary concepts, design and impeccable service to the rich culture landscape of Soho.’
On that note, chef Sam Talbot runs Imperial No. Nine, his sustainable seafood concept restaurant, with 150 seats. Around the back entrance, at 150 Lafayette, is night-spot Mister H, with a 1930s theme.
The hotel is the work of Benjamin Noriega Ortiz, Barry Rice Architects and H. Thomas O’Hara Architects, with inspiration from Jean Cocteau’s La Belle et la Bête (1946). Rates begin at US$309 per night, based on availability.
