Channel your inner siren and embrace brash, bold red lips. For many of us who can’t work a red lip, this sounds worrying, but make-up guru Napoleon Perdis has come to our rescue with his revolutionary Better off Red collection. He says that ‘wearing a red lip is the fastest way to upgrade your image; it’s face-brightening, teeth-whitening and mood-altering,’ and recommends leaving it on for 12 minutes to allow your eye to adjust to the colour when finding your perfect shade of red.
The Better Off Red collection features seven lip products in varying textures and hues to complement all ages and skin tones, to prove that red can be anyone’s colour.
There are DeVine Goddess Lipsticks in three shades; Anna, Xenia and Aphrodite (NZ$38), as well as Lip Glosses in three hues of Undercover Red, Front Row Red and Lady in Red (NZ$35). Each gloss has its own unique combination of ingredients ranging from cherry and pomegranate extracts to Brazil nut seed oils and peach extract, offering a nourishing and restoring gloss that glides on easily with the finish of a lipstick and colour lasting up to 10 hours.
My favourite is the Double Agent Rouge (NZ$38). It comes in a double lip palette compact made up of a semi-matte lipstick enriched in carnauba wax and vitamin E to ensure a smooth application, while the pressed lip powder helps fortify colour giving an on-trend matt effect, resulting in a velvety, full-bodied red pout.—Vicki Matias
