While Doug Rimington is shooting—Lucire went to nine shows—we have a full complement of London Fashion Week videos. Antoni & Alison, Fyodor Golan, Caroline Charles, Zoë Jordan, Dominic Jones, Corrie Nielson, Bora Aksu, Willow, Maria Grachvogel, Eudon Choi, Jean-Pierre Braganza, Unconditional, Eley Kishimoto, PPQ, KTZ, Felder Felder, and Emilia Wickstead are the designers presented below, along with a day one highlight reel.
Australian label Willow made its UK début with a spring–summer 2013 collection that kept things light, with pastels and faded oranges, as well as a flowing use of chiffon. Another newbie at London, Corrie Nielson, played with tulle and other translucent fabrics, but for a more voluminous effect, playing with structure and shining a light on to an imagined, fanciful and slightly space-aged future.
Emilia Wickstead provided another highlight on day one, with a spring collection based around Truman Capote’s “swans”, socialites such as Marella Agnelli, Gloria Guinness, C. Z. Guest, Pamela Harriman, Slim Keith, and Babe Paley, photographed by Horst, Slim Aarons and Bert Morgan, among others. It seems fitting since Wickstead can count the Duchess of Cambridge and Sam Cam as her customers, and her retro-styled (1950s and 1960s) designs had enough modernity for the 2013 wearer. Think fitted bodices, circle skirts and pencil dresses.
Bias cuts, floaty fabrics and pleating marked out Maria Grachvogel’s collection, while Bora Aksu used silks, organza, chiffon and draping to excellent effect.
