E’scapes 360 C, 2024, acrylic on wood block, measuring 190 mm high with a diameter of 100 mm, NZ$420.

Kiwi artist Linda Gair is showing her work at Railway Street Gallery & Studios at Railway Street, Newmarket, Auckland, in an exhibition called Altered Perspectives. It contains some of Gair’s best work to date, showcasing imagined landscapes that take their inspiration from her native New Zealand. Gair captures the colour and light of Aotearoa, especially the landscapes of te Waipounamu.

It was Central Otago that gave Gair a creative boost for this latest collection. In Altered Perspectives, she explores these landscapes, dividing the vista with Ts and crosses, and inviting us to question and re-examine them. In Pitcher Perfect I and II she frames the landscapes in pitcher shapes, having a painting within a painting, and her E’Scapes see Gair paint acrylic on to blocks of wood.

Altered Perspectives runs till August 31. The gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Some of the works can be purchased online at the Gallery’s website.
