Yesterday’s do at the St John’s Bar to watch the Melbourne Cup, and toast the Wellington launch of Foster’s Yellowglen Perle (the Cuisine sparkling wine award winner for this year), was an enjoyable one. While the day does not stop in New Zealand as it does in Australia, plenty of Kiwis still get in to the Melbourne Cup spirit.
Yellowglen Perle is actually quite good for a méthode traditionelle, but nursing a sore throat I had to watch my intake.
The crowd, which included Lucire reader Mayor Kerry Prendergast, enjoyed the free bubbly at the Bar, and was engrossed in the big screens around the bar as the Cup ran.
Voted best dressed was fellow journalist Laura McQuillan of the NZPA, in Ruby. Not many people can pull off a yellow dress, but Miss McQuillan managed it well. She took home a case of six bottles of Yellowglen.
