GM announced both its 2010 Cadillac SRX and Buick LaCrosse at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), or the Detroit Auto Show, on January 9. We don’t see much point to SUVs like the SRX—and have not done for the entire decade—but the LaCrosse, admittedly, is a tidy, attractive design that shows there’s life in the Buick brand yet. The silhouette is not unlike that of the Opel Insignia (which is sold as a Buick in China), but the dipping waistline, kicking up at the rear door, is reminiscent of some Buicks of old—the 1973 Riviera is cited as an inspiration. One of the car’s stated objectives was to be ‘library quiet’, and it must have a good ride—both being qualities sought after by Buick buyers.
