Backes & Strauss has announced the Princess Elizabeth, one of two timepieces created to commemorate the 90th birthday of HM Queen Elizabeth II this year.
The unique watch features a gold dial hand-engraved by Backes & Strauss’s master engraver, and enamelled using the grand feu technique with XC at 12 o’clock. The image on the dial is an effigy of a young Queen Elizabeth.
Backes & Strauss notes that the process uses English Blythe enamel, applied at over 900°C, controlled to achieve a royal purple hue.
The enamelling and engraving processes are shown in a series of images released by the company.
A second piece, called the Queen Elizabeth, will be unveiled in Japan in October.
