Mellerio’s Giardino collection pays tribute to the Mellerio family’s Italian roots, particularly the Borromean islands. Laure-Isabelle Mellerio, the brand’s current creative director, has been inspired by the colour in the gardens of Isola Madre, and a pattern from a 19th-century drawing. There is also the balance, and tension, between Italian and French influences.
The result is a range of earrings, bracelets, necklaces and rings, featuring diamonds, sapphires or rubies. Prices range from €3,500 for the small pink sapphire earrings to the medium earrings in either diamond or ruby at €16,800.
The earrings are set on 18 ct pink gold. Opting for the diamond version, there are two central diamonds at 0·4 ct each, surrounded by eight diamonds (totalling 0·46 ct), and diamond paving (0·14 ct). Go for rubies and the mix changes slightly, with two 0·45 ct rubies flanked by eight pink sapphires (0·57 ct) and 0·14 ct diamond paving.
