Women, power and money are topics that capture my interest immediately. Imagine my dismay when I read this very enlightening New York Times article that apparently girl power has not transferred successfully into the workforce. Apparently the culprits are perfectionism and having a thin skin among other things.
I personally think having a thick skin is something that socially women aren’t encouraged to have and thus we lean towards adopting a more sensitive behaviour towards life. How many times have I second guessed myself (perfectionism) and overanalysed a remark from a fellow colleague (thin skin)? Although it hasn’t affected my salary, it has resulted in a less happier me. Read Hannah Seligson’s article, ‘Girl Power at School, but Not at the Of?ce’ and drop a comment. Do you think Girl Power hasn’t found its successful place in the of?ce yet ?
