Alfa Romeo’s new Giulietta, which was shown at the Salon de Genève in March, débuts today (April 13). The car will steadily be launched throughout Europe in May.
In some ways, the new Giulietta, which replaces the 147, takes the design language begun with the 8C Competizione and MiTo (Lucire’s Car to Be Seen in for 2009), and translates it to a mid-sized hatchback format rivalling the Volkswagen Golf and Ford Focus. The design is more flowing than on the MiTo, and quality is expected to be closer to the benchmark this time.
Alfa Romeo has used the Giulietta name on several occasions, with the last appearance on a sports saloon in the 1970s and 1980s.
The Giulietta is important globally. It is on a brand-new platform, which will underpin other cars within the empire of parent company Fiat. The platform may even find its way Stateside, as Fiat is now in charge of Chrysler.
