Victoria Beckham was one of the guests at the launch of the Range Rover Evoque, held in conjunction with Vogue at Kensington Palace yesterday.
Beckham, who was announced as the company’s creative design executive, said she was looking forward to working with Range Rover design director Gerry McGovern.
‘I’m incredibly excited to be collaborating with Range Rover. I would like to thank both Phil [Popham, Range Rover MD] and Gerry for giving me such an incredible opportunity. I like to take on a challenge and I’m ready for it,’ she said.
The celebration also marked 40 years of the Range Rover brand. Charles Spencer King envisaged a car that had the off-road capability of the Land Rover, but the comfort of a Rover motor car.
Since then, the Range Rover has grown markedly in size and luxury, to the point where the largest version is wider than a Rolls-Royce Phantom.
The new Evoque is meant to bring Range Rover to a younger audience, more interested in a smaller, sporting vehicle—while generating less than 130 g/km of carbon dioxide.
Both two- and four-wheel drive models of the SUV will be offered.
The video features sound bites from Popham, McGovern and Beckham.
Among the 300 guests were Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, model Erin O’Connor, and presenter Gabby Logan.
