It’s not exactly Nicole and Papa as Renault went arty with its new Clio commercial on Sunday during ITV1’s Dancing on Ice.
Rihanna, Dita von Teese and Thierry Henry star in its latest campaign, which also features Audrey Hepburn and Marlon Brando in footage, and a reference to David Bowie.
The commercial aims to link certain icons to the idea of ‘Va va voom’: Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Brando in On the Waterfront, and a tattoo of Bowie. The final installation shows a white Renault Sport Clio.
It’s particularly well timed for Renault, especially with the interest surrounding burlesque lately.
When asked what the elusive quality of ‘va va voom’ was, burlesque star von Teese answered, ‘For me, Va Va Voom is expressing your passion or sexual excitement for something. Maybe it isn’t sexual, but it makes you feel that way when you see it. You want it, and you can’t even explain why you want it.’
The music mixes Rihanna’s S&M, Clare Maguire’s ‘Ain’t Nobody’ and David Bowie’s ‘Space Oddity’.
Further information is available from the Facebook page. The commercials were created by Publicis London, which had created the Nicole and Papa series.
