One name that should be on everyone’s lips when it comes to new and exciting jewellery is Nina Gordon, creator of Flash Jewellery, established in 2009. Having already been named one of the top 20 young and emerging design talents in British Vogue, Gordon’s pieces are already garnering her much praise and attention back here in New Zealand.
Finding her love of jewellery-making through a night course, she returned to the course five times before venturing into her career. As a costume jewellery designer for small productions, Gordon has moved her deft hand to semi-precious metals and stones. Her pieces are all individually handcrafted and loving laboured over. She has become known for reusing old and what some consider unusable materials into vibrant pieces that are eye-catching and individual just like the designer herself. Also, taking inspirations from the street and what real people wear, she creates fun accessible pieces that are truly keepsakes.
Her latest was featured at Wellington Fashion Week in the Julian Danger collection showing at Willis York. Hand-cast rings featuring crystal like formations, these are serious rings with bling: throughout the week they were also spotted on the hands of the most fashionable make-up artists and hairdressers as well.—Sopheak Seng, Fashion & Beauty Editor
