Westpac will run its Young Fashion Designer Competition again this year, for its third outing, at New Zealand Fashion Week.
Now established on the fashion calendar, it claims to be the country’s most prestigious award for emerging designers.
Top prize includes NZ$5,000, mentoring from a New Zealand designer, and dedicated banking advice. Three designers will have the opportunity to show their collections at Fashion Week.
Potential entrants must prepare a portfolio of three looks, along with a biography, and a paragraph on how they would put the prize package to good use, by August 1. Submissions are to be sent via the competition’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/westpacyoungdesigner.
Industry experts then select 10 semi-finalists, from which the public votes on Facebook.
The three with the greatest number of votes by August 19 will travel to Auckland to present their collections before the judges during New Zealand Fashion Week, with a ‘live runway walk-off’ on September 7. The winner will be announced at the show.
Last year’s winner, Georgia Currie (collection shown above), has since set up her label, Georgia Alice. Currie amassed 11,000 public votes.
