Frédéric Malle says he is not a run-of-the-mill parfumier. He is, in his own words, a ‘fragrance publisher,’ and says that he approaches the development of a new perfume in the same way a publisher approaches a new book.
The company, Editions de Parfums, expresses his approach, and Malle has worked with the famed parfumier Dominique Ropion (who most recently co-developed Trésor in Love for Lancôme) in releasing Property of a Lady.
Malle says the fragrance has come from exploring, without having any goal in mind, ‘hoping that our explorations will take us somewhere interesting.’
Property of a Lady has a base of benzoin, musk, sandalwood, patchouli and incense, with the ingredients adjusted to make the scent more feminine. Turkish rose essence and red berries were then added, resulting in an oriental rose fragrance.
The fragrance will appear in the UK at Liberty from the beginning of November at its exclusive Frédéric Malle scent boutique.
