New Zealand designer Claire Barker is drawing on her roots and her knowledge of China as she opens a new store in Shanghai, on the fifth floor of the Isetan Department Store in the Huang Pu district.
The Japanese-owned department store has gained a reputation in Shanghai as a premium fashion retail centre.
Barker had once worked as a futures’ trader in China and her family still lives there.
In a release, she says that she sources most of her fabrics from Chinese cities.
‘[Shanghai has hosted] its eighth successive fashion week this year. There seemed like no better time and place for me to expand internationally.’
The new store will be supplied directly from the designer’s workshop in Shanghai.
