Australian model and new mother Miranda Kerr is the face of WWF’s Earth Hour this year.
She follows in the footsteps of other celebrity spokespeople for the annual environmental event, including supermodel Gisèle Bündchen and her husband Tom Brady, actor Edward Norton, and Coldplay’s Chris Martin.
‘I am pleased to have been asked to be the global ambassador for Earth Hour 2011,’ Kerr says in a statement.
‘Each of us has a responsibility for the sustainability of our planet and each of us can make a difference if we choose to do so.
’
Earth Hour will take place on March 26 at 8.30 p.m. globally, and people are encouraged to turn their lights off for an hour.
Last year, 128 countries participated and even landmarks such as the Tour Eiffel and the Empire State Building dimmed their lights.
Kerr says, ‘I will personally be participating in the Earth Hour event on 26 March 2011 along with billions of other people globally and I will continue to adopt sustainability practices thereafter in my everyday life.’

Kerr and husband Orlando Bloom welcomed their son, Flynn, on January 6.
