The business of fashion is often a cruel mistress and many labels will come and go.
However, to survive five years in the fashion industry, and through a recession, is an achievement.
Not only has Christchurch-based label Mister had to endure a recession but it has also faced the loss of its workroom, the hardship of the ’quake that affected the Christchurch CBD, and other turmoils.
But this year marks its fifth year in business and a turning point for the label: the success story of this year’s New Zealand Fashion Week, a collaboration with Fly My Pretties, and dressing some of the best known faces in New Zealand music, film and television.
This is the label to be watching, as Lucire has long known. Its fifth birthday is a celebration of the road it has travelled, and the road to be taken. With other exciting projects coming up for the label, its expansion into the womenswear market, and continuation and growth of their business, we wish Mister a big congratulations on turning five.—Sopheak Seng, Fashion and Beauty Editor
