It’s probably our partiality toward James Bond films and not the horror genre that sees us mention Thursday night’s première of Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters at Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Los Angeles. Bond girls Gemma Arterton and Famke Janssen were both present—Arterton is one of the leads, alongside Jeremy Renner, while Janssen has a villain’s role, as she did in Goldeneye.
Tommy Wirkola helms the movie, which is an action-fantasy flick with an irreverent approach, and more mainstream than his 2009 film Dead Snow. Peter Stormare, Pihla Viitala and New Zealander Zoë Bell appear in supporting roles. Will Ferrell produces alongside Kevin Messick and Beau Flynn.
The movie opens today (Friday) in the US.
In other entertainment news, Hackney-born Labrinth says he has collaborated with Rihanna, appearing on her new album, Lost in Paradise, which he calls a good step in to the US market. He made no complaints about working with the star, calling her ‘cool’, despite earlier tabloid reports that he found her difficult to work with.
Labrinth has been nominated for a Brit Award and held an unofficial pre-Brit party on Thursday night benefiting War Child International, helping children and young people affected by armed conflict.
