As with the fourth-generation Mini earlier this week, Jaguar was keen to get the celebrity set seen with its new F-type coupé as it had its launch in Los Angeles.
On the eve of the Auto Show, Jaguar held a VIP event at Raleigh Studios, Playa Vista, with guests including Miranda Kerr, Simon Cowell, Rufus Sewell, David Gandy, Nicholas Hoult, Joe Manganiello, Kelly Osbourne, Yasmin Mills, Jodie Kidd, singer–songwriter Andra Day and CarCast’s Adam Carolla.
The F-type R Coupé, with a 550 PS power output from its twin-supercharged V8, was the star of the event, with a Polaris white example zooming toward the audience’s grandstand before passing under it. The R Coupé hits 60 mph in four seconds flat, and has a limited top speed of 186 mph.
Ian Callum, Jaguar’s design director, and to many the man who brought back the brand’s stylistic soul, played host.
He said, ‘Creating a sports coupé is the purest of design tasks and also the most challenging; get it right and æsthetically the result will be as dynamic as the car should be rewarding to drive. In F-type Coupé, I believe we’ve got it right.
‘The dramatic debut of the 550 PS F-type R Coupé in Los Angeles this evening—possibly the most dynamic reveal of a car ever—underlines its performance credentials.’
