The International Designer Collection at this year’s Westfield Style Pasifika: Best of Pasifika will include one-off garments from top international fashion designers such as Yohji Yamamoto from Japan and John Rocha from Ireland.
This year’s event is taking place as part of the Real New Zealand Festival during the Rugby World Cup 2011. The Style Pasifika rugby-inspired International Designer Collection will showcase the selection of garments which were designed exclusively by renowned fashion designers from each of the 19 nations participating in the Rugby World Cup 2011.
The challenge for the designers was to create a rugby-inspired garment using New Zealand merino wool and the showcase will occur over the course of two exclusive evenings between the Rugby World Cup 2011 semifinal and final games on Tuesday, October 18 and Wednesday, October 19 at the Vector Arena in Auckland. These two nights will include uniquely New Zealand entertainment including musicians, dancers, cultural entertainers, artists, film-makers and designers, all of whom will showcase the best of New Zealand and Pacific innovation and creativity.
Westfield Style Pasifika: Best of Pasifika is one of the flagship events supported by New Zealand Government for the Real New Zealand Festival and the show aims to celebrate New Zealand’s place in the Pacific in an extraordinary fashion. The event, going into its 17th year, is an iconic New Zealand event as well as the world’s largest indigenous fashion event.
