Perhaps realizing that smut doesn’t always translate into sales, Playboy Enterprises has launched The Smoking Jacket, a safe-for-work men’s website—which we take to mean something positioned between a typical lads’ magazine and GQ.
‘TheSmokingJacket.com is the ultimate safe-for-work internet experience for men, and a one-stop shop for all that is cool online,’ said Jimmy Jellinek, Chief Content Officer and Editorial Director of Playboy and Playboy.com in a release. ‘Cube dwellers and office drones alike shall rejoice at this fun, sexy, satirical antidote to the drudgery of the work day.’
That pretty much lines up the target audience, but the site promises blog-like posts and viral videos that should extend to more than office drones.
The site also features a welcome by Hugh Hefner, though in the 21 seconds of the clip, he only tells viewers that it’s the ‘best hangout on the planet’ short of being at the Playboy Mansion.
Traffic is already quite healthy for a newly launched website.
The release was quick to point out that Playboy.com would still feature nudity.
