The name for the 23rd “official” James Bond film has been unveiled at a press conference: Skyfall. Star Daniel Craig, director Sam Mendes, and fellow stars Javier Bardem, Dame Judi Dench, Naomie Harris and Bérénice Marlohe, along with producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael J. Wilson, gave their thoughts on the new Bond movie, which began shooting today, at the Corinthia Hotel in London.
Albert Finney, Ralph Fiennes and Ben Whishaw are also in the cast of the new film. Scriptwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, with Gladiator’s John Logan, penned the script, which has no connection to an Ian Fleming novel.
Says Craig, ‘In doing a third one … it was my intention to make the best Bond movie we possibly could.’
The film’s title was already in the rumour mill among Bond fans, who had noticed the domain name registered earlier this year.
Wilson said the budget was in the same region as Casino Royale, which would make Skyfall’s around US$200 million.
The press conference took place 50 years to the day that Sean Connery was announced as the first cinematic James Bond.
