Last year, print readers of Lucire will note we brought up the Battle of Versailles and the trends that are being mirrored today. Anne Klein is commemorating this event, too, as its 50th anniversary approaches.

Its autumn–winter 2023–4 campaign features model and new mum Jasmine Tookes, photographed by Tom Schirmacher. Tookes will also moderate a panel at Spring Studios featuring Stephen Burrows, the last surviving designer of the original 10 who headed to Versailles, Donna Karan, who was Anne Klein’s right hand (Anne was the sole female designer of the 10), and models Alva Chinn and Pat Cleveland.

The panel, Battle of Versailles 50: the Making of Fashion History, takes place on September 11, in partnership with NYFW: the Talks.

The Battle of Versailles brought American fashion design to the forefront and showed the world that it was the equal to anything in the old world. It also broke racial barriers and showcased American sportswear.

‘We take immense pride in honouring Anne’s legacy and keeping that flame alive,’ said Jameel Spencer, CMO-in-residence for Anne Klein. ‘The Battle of Versailles not only presented Anne Klein’s work on a world stage, but it was the impetus for social shifts, racial awareness and American magic. As we celebrate multiple milestones this year, in what would’ve been our founder’s 100th birthday, we are thrilled to partner with Jasmine Tookes to recognize the strength of diverse women impacting the world in positive ways and doing it with style and grace like only women can.’

Tookes added, ‘I am thrilled to be a small part of this storied brand founded by a powerful woman. I’d like to think my power as a woman is my positivity and being able to be a role model for mothers and business women managing it all with grace and style.’
